The Alcoa Waroona Sustainability Fund was designed to ensure Alcoa and the communities of Harvey and Waroona succeed together.

From an initial investment of $400,000 from Alcoa of Australia (Alcoa) in June 2008, this unique partnership has supported 50 individual groups in the Harvey and Waroona communities with about 60 diverse projects.

With more than 170 local members and growing, the Waroona Bowling and Social Club set itself the goal of installing a second synthetic green before its 60th anniversary in 2018.

As with other projects in the town, the Sustainability Fund was an early supporter committing $50,000 in cornerstone funding to the $259,000 project.

President Ted Russell said “It’s fantastic to have achieved the goal as it’s given a real shot in the arm for the club and is a credit to all the members and volunteers who contributed.

The Sustainability Fund’s contribution along with the $80,000 from the club greatly assisted us leveraging additional funds from the State Government Department of Sport and Recreation to complete the project,”.
